Boutwell Studios' Mission Statement: Better engineered audio for our clients. One of the hallmarks of Boutwell Studios has always been our desire to be on the leading edge of commercial audio production. That meant that we had to anticipate trends and be ready with new technology before our clients realized they needed it. Such thinking has lead to a series of firsts:
We were the first audio facility in these parts to post audio to picture. We were first to import voice talent in real time via digital phone lines and the first to deliver finished audio production in like fashion. More recently, we were one of the first studios in the nation to install a multi-media audio suite.
In 1999, we again led the way with the installation of 5.1 surround sound monitoring and mixing capabilities. We are now equipped to provide original music and audio post-production for DVD, HDTV, hard drive presentations, surround theatre settings, theatrical programming and other surround sound platforms.
The only certainty in the world of commercial audio production is change. And as technology continues to evolve, we won't be following the prevailing trends, we'll lead the way in shaping the future of audio production. That's our commitment to our clients; to find a better way to produce effective, compelling audio communication.

About US!

Boutwell Studios sprang to life in 1961 in the spare bedroom of the Homewood, Alabama cottage of Ed and Fran Boutwell. At the time, Ed was an engineer for WAPI radio and television, the NBC affiliate for Birmingham. Like most radio and television stations of the era, WAPI did not have a proper space to record audio for the commercials they produced.
So, Ed seized the opportunity to start a business.
Fast forward four decades and four moves and Boutwell Studios has returned to the Homewood suburb of Birmingham to occupy our splendid, new 12,000 square foot facility. With the professional assistance of one audio wizard, one color-corrected interior designer, two very different architects and one world-class contractor, what was once a church is now a four-studio complex that employs the latest technology to create fine, hand-crafted audio for our clients.
