Raising funds and ongoing efforts to find a cure.

Since 1996, the BCRFA has donated nearly $1.7 million to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center for labs and research dedicated to breast cancer. Local events, community and corporate support have contributed to the success in fundraising for this dreaded disease. All funds raised remain in Birmingham to establish and expand much needed research. The BCRFA board and its volunteers, many of whom have battled this disease, have galvanized their resources in the ongoing effort to finding a cure.

Be a part of the cure and support breast cancer research through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.

Check Presentation

On December 7, 2006, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama proudly presented the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center with a check for $225,000. Foundation President, Marion Walker, presented the funds to Dr. Edward Partridge, Cancer Center Acting Director and Dr. Albert LoBuglio, Cancer Center Director Emeritus. One hundred percent of funds will benefit breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. LoBuglio explained that the donation would be used to continue promising studies of a new breast cancer drug that has shown significant results in early studies at UAB. The study is led by Andres Forero, M.D. “The initial studies of this drug were made possible through support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama,” Dr. LoBuglio said. “We will use today’s donation to continue this and other promising research that may change lives of women with breast cancer worldwide.”

Initial results will be used to develop additional studies at cancer centers nationwide, with Dr. Forero continuing to serve as the lead investigator. “This money will make a difference in the lives of patients in our state and beyond,” Dr. Forero said.
