About The Firm

Two decades ago, Lloyd W. Gathings had gained significant experience with a large Birmingham, Alabama firm representing plaintiffs in products liability and other serious personal injury cases, as well as cases involving consumer fraud.
In 1987, he founded Gathings Law on the basic concept that every person, no matter their social or economic status, is entitled to receive the best representation in court and is entitled to a level playing field when they enter the litigation arena.

"When any person has been wronged by another person or a corporation, they not only deserve, but have an absolute constitutional right, to settle their civil disputes," Gathings says. "This can be accomplished in court, or through legal arbitration."
Today, Lloyd’s firm is a partnership of three trial lawyers, including his spouse, Honora M. Gathings, and additional associate attorneys. With offices in both Birmingham and St. Petersburg, Florida, the firm's attorneys have more than 90 years of combined litigation experience representing clients in cases involving product liability, automobile and truck accidents, on-the-job injuries, construction accidents, toxic substances, defective drug and medical products, and fraud on consumers.
Additionally, as a husband-and-wife team, the Gathings are able to represent their clients from a family perspective, giving unique consideration to family values and family needs.

Gathings Law does not defend any corporations in civil suits. The firm limits its practice to representing only claimants in civil damage cases who have been injured individually or in their businesses. Additionally, Gathings Law works on a national stage. The firm represents plaintiffs in national class actions and multi-district litigation, as well as in many states in addition to Alabama, including, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, and Texas.

In addition to representing clients in court, Gathings Law strongly believes that its attorneys should take a leadership role in advancing the legal profession and enhancing the community in general. As such, Lloyd has served as President of the Birmingham Trial Lawyers Association, in all offices and President of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, as a member and chairman of the Board of Directors of Alabama Lawyers for Children (an organization to stop child abuse in Alabama), as a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association, and as Vice-President and President of the Birmingham Bar Foundation.

Honora has served as a member and soon to be officer of the Executive Committee of the Women's Law Section of the Birmingham Bar Association, as a member of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy Foundation Board, and has been a driving force in establishing mentoring programs for young women lawyers and law students.

As a result of the many years of success, the attorneys of Gathings Law have the legal tools necessary to help bring a level playing field to clients in the litigation arena and to provide them with the representation they deserve.

In short, Gathings Law has the resources to fight, and the experience to win!
